Management Strategy to Establish New Populations Critically Endangered Species of Cycads in Colombia

Project objectives

The project constitutes the first attempted reintroduction programme for Cycads in Colombia. In addition to the establishment of new populations in safe sites, the project the team hopes to foster better inter-institutional relationships for Cycad conservation between protected areas, botanical gardens, environmental authorities and academic stakeholders.

Finally, the project will contribute to and become an important component of on-going efforts to coordinate activities within the framework of the “National Conservation Plan for Zamia in Colombia” and the “National Strategy for Conservation of Plants”.

This project is implemented by National Biodiversity Institute “Alexander von Humboldt”.
