Project
Mapping Natural Habitats for the Mountain Nyala
Initiative
Duration
2022 - 2023
Location
Ethiopia
Species protected
Mountain Nyala
Tragelaphus buxtoni
Project objectives
This research project aims to identify natural habitats that provide the best forage and cover for the Endangered mountain nyala, as well as comparing the vegetation diversity between. Another goal is to identify areas that require a greater level of protection from intensified human activities and livestock grazing. The project is vital for habitat-specific species like mountain nyala with low population density and high sensitivity to human disturbance to establish cost-effective conservation management strategies and ensure long-term survival.
